TRUST something we really need to be looking at
AS TRUST is pretty well broken
They trust each other… professionally.
But not emotionally.
And across cultures? It gets even more complicated.
TRUST means different things – in different places
In EBW team assessment feedbacks around the world, we see fascinating patterns:
In Japan → trust is about discretion. Protecting others from loss of face.
In the UK → trust is about consistency. Showing up the same way, reliably.
In Nigeria → trust is about shared struggle. Proving loyalty through adversity.
In the US → trust is about openness. Willingness to share early and often.
Every region – and every team – defines trust differently.
But one thing holds true
As teams grow, trust becomes depersonalised and performance declines.
When trust becomes assumed rather than tended, emotional drift sets in.
So what kind of trust are you seeing?
Psychological research highlights three main trust models:
Cognitive trust — built from observed competence (“I trust what you can do.”)
Affective trust — built from emotional bonds (“I trust who you are.”)
Integrative trust — built from innate tendencies and shared team behaviour
Every level of intelligence is required

We need to start rebuilding now as the damage is like wood worm and we need to tackle it no
